1973 Kawasaki Z1 – Fully original unrestored

Article by Tully Hall

I purchased this bike from the original owner’s estate in March of 2007. The bike had been in temperature-controlled storage since 1980 and has remained so under my ownership with no modifications. To the best of my knowledge, it is in unrestored original condition, including all normal maintenance items such as cables, hoses, tires, cables, etc. with the exception of the battery. It is my understanding after the original owner’s initial purchase the bike was ridden to the Sturgis rally, and after that only on an occasional day trip until early 1980 as the owner had multiple bikes.

The current mileage is 4924. I attribute the excellent condition of the bike to the fact the bike was fitted with a full set of Vetter fairings, and of course the subsequent storage environment for 42 years. I have researched the ride documentation and the following mileage reading were noted by the owner or by me personally.
